This coin was minted in New Orleans the same year the SS Tennessee (later renamed SS Republic) first sailed from New York to Venezuela, ushering in steamship era of travel between the US and South America. The design on this coin returns to the pre-1853 Christian Gobrecht design without �arrows� and �rays.� The coin was on its way back to New Orleans when it sank along with the SS Republic in 1865.

I would not be willing to pay those premiums, but I would wager there are many who have and will. They have two of the best sales tools that I know of.

#1 A Great Story. If something has a great story behind it, it is easy to get more money for it. I once sold an old Lincoln that belonged to Loren Green. Kinda like Georges' LeBaron on Seinfeld.

#2 Free advertising. A great story brings free press. News coverage, even on the lawsuit, brings recognition. I have seen a documentary on the search and recovery of the treasure. Pretty interesting and quite an investment for the owners.
